Modeling Gas Adsorption–Desorption Hysteresis in Energetically Heterogeneous Coal and Shale

چکیده

Adsorption of gases in porous adsorbents such as coal and shale generally exhibits the phenomenon hysteresis. Most previous studies on desorption hysteresis were conducted via experimental tests. However, few theoretical models that represent adsorption–desorption sorbents are available. To address this issue, work develops a new model for describing adsorption isotherms with Particularly, energetically heterogeneous surfaces an adsorbent considered patchwise model. Based change site energy distribution, logarithmically pressure-dependent index, which is used to measure degree hysteresis, derived quantitative assessment Besides, correlation between isotherm initialized pressure established. The accuracy proposed adequately describe gas demonstrated by validating against laboratory experiments obtained from literature. results indicate depends significantly distribution. By comparing distributions isotherms, it found can be attributed pore size distribution caused adsorption-induced deformation. analyses support effective tool quantitatively predict amount released during desorption, significant designing coalbed methane or production assessing long-term CO2 storage behavior.

About the Cover: Black carbon (BC) containing particles have an important role to play in climate change; directly heating through absorption of radiation, and/or indirectly cooling through the seeding of clouds. New research in this issue, using a mobile laboratory indicates that gasoline powered cars may produce more BC than previously considered. Transmission electron microscopy background i...

Hysteresis: Phenomenon and Modeling in Soil- Water Relationship

Hysteresis has been widely recognized in the soil water relationship. In this paper, a detailed review of hysteresis was performed in relation to its models. So far, different models have been suggested to describe hysteresis in the water retention curve (WRC) that could be categorized into two main groups: conceptual and empirical models. The models in the first group are based on the domain t...

SPE 153391 Measurement, Modeling, and Diagnostics of Flowing Gas Composition Changes in Shale Gas Wells

Few attempts have been made to model shale gas reservoirs on a compositional basis. Multiple distinct micro-scale physical phenomena influence the transport and storage of reservoir fluids in shale, including differential desorption, preferential Knudsen diffusion, and capillary critical effects. Concerted, these phenomena cause a measureable compositional change in the produced gas over time. ...
